The Magnolia

Title Screen: MAGNOLIA

The space of NYUSH campus  is divided into two categories: learnings and unknowns.
General Description: Dada talks with you, it is everything, it includes everything, it belongs to all religions, can be neither victory nor defeat, it lives in space and not in time.

Experience Method: Dada is like your hopes: nothing like your paradise: nothing like your idols: nothing like your heroes: nothing like your artists: nothing like your religions: nothing.

Vladimir Mayakovsky by Alexander Rodchenko

About Prof. M

One must go through life, be it red or blue, stark naked and accompanied by the music of a subtle fisherman, prepared at all times for a celebration.
Nature is unfair? So much the better, inequality is the only bearable thing, the monotony of equality can only lead us to boredom.

You are always looking for already-felt emotions, just as you like to get an old pair of trousers back from the cleaners, which seem new when you don't look too closely. Artists are cleaners, don't let yourself be taken in by them. True modern works of art are made not by artists but quite simply by men.

Project 02

Verse NO.1555

After December 2022, the Century Ave. No.1555 was not only an address for the NYUSH community but a symbolic number in their memory. The academic building that the NYU Shanghai has inhabited for more than 8 years was going to have her new face/soul. The memory of this building matters to everyone who studied and worked there. It deserved to be kept and materialized in an important and unique way, with which the people can revisit it.
In this project, we have fabricated a virtual “Century Ave. No.1555” online with 3D scan models, which are made from our memory of this building. NYUSH community members can once more revisit it any time and encounter stories that happened in the real Century Avenue No. 1555.  The project breeds two applications: a web-based 3D experience and a phone-based AR application on smartphones.

Leaving Message in the Verse NO.1555 - (2022 Fall)

Verse NO.1555 on phone - (2022 Fall)

Website:
3D Century Ave. No.1555 on the web page will enable users to experience the 3D space with a keyboard and mouse.  There are two key features: leaving text messages and inserting photos in the 3D space. Simultaneously, users can view messages from others as well. With the contribution of leaving messages the virtual space will be not only a 3D asset but a virtual space filled with memories and history of NYU Shanghai.
AR:
With the scan models of Academic Build, this project has created an AR application running on smartphones. It recognizes the physical space and attach the virtual objects (messages, pictures, 3D models, and arts) to the real space.  Users were able to experience the virtual content when they are walking in the physical Academic Building.  View memories from others and create their own virtual content with similar tools as what they have on the web page.

The Stake

Stake 2014
@Game Lab, Center for Human Imagination

The Stake is a mini project for the Assembly, a research in the Center of Human Imagination - UCSD

In 2014, I worked for the Center of Human Imagination at UCSD.  The Stake was designed as a digital creature for a bigger ecosystem in an virtual environment, the Assembly.  The stakes can swallow energy and perform different behaviors based on various situations.
